When to quit - Offshore Sport Betting

Recently I have found myself getting ahead early on in a game, say after 15 minutes or so, but then slowly (or sometimes quickly) losing my entire stack over the next hour. So I just started quitting while I was ahead. I know that if you are a consistently winning player, you should just play as long as the game is good and you are playing well, and I also know that good poker players make money by maximizing, not minimizing, their time at the tables. So I'm thinking that something changes mentally after I get up early, like diminished aggression, or maybe incorrect aggression. Has anyone else noticed this at any point in their poker career, and what did you/should I do about it? Thanks.

i have gone through times where the exact same thing happens to me. i think part of it is, i get over confident. i guess i consider myself 'on a roll' or something, and start making plays i shouldn't. or.. on the other hand.. i play too tight after winning, and then don't make calls i should because i don't want to lose my stack.

how do i try to avoid doing this? i make a mental note of it. now everytime i get up early i try to do my best to play the same game that got me there. i try my best to make sure my chipstack doesn't change my mentality.

anyways.. that just how i do it..

i would bet it is mostly because you are changing the way you play in some fashion. Maybe since you are up, you are playing looser or chasing more. You might be thinking, well even if i chase this flush draw and miss, I will still be up a little bit. But you should be thinking more on the lines of is the pot laying me the right odds to call, or if i hit my draw, is this guy a maniac and going to pay me off. etc. I dont know if this is it but this is what a lot of people do. THis is a tough one to help out on because i can assume a lot of things you might be doing, but it might be something completely different.

I would definatly have to agree with kid in this situation when you are up you tend to make loose calls and sometimes fold when you should call cuz you dont want to lose your profit. It messes with your head so I think it is good to try to take your stack size out of the equation when making decisions. Dont think if i call I will have this much left or I will lose this much profit just work on making the right decisions.

Got back to playing poker after something like a year away, been doing all right. Nothing super but slowly increasing bankroll. Moved to NL from limit and am shocked by how bad some of the players are!

I fell straight into a situation like above 15 mins ago due to my own stupidity. Playing for a couple hours at 0.5/1 NL with things going along nicely but one maniac style player at the table who successfully put me on tilt it seems, credit where its due.

Was dealt [Ac Qc], called his raises, flop comes:

[Jd 6h 3s]

Said maniac goes all-in and I foolishly call without pot odds or anything else

Turn deals [8s] and river [Td]. Maniac shows [Ad 8h] and takes away a chunk of my table cash with his pair of 8's.

So let that be a reminder to ya'll - dont give in to the maniac! Cos boy will you be annoyed with yourself if you do

I used to do the same. Call all his raises prefloop and trying to go after him. And calling when i shouldnt or pushing against him when i shouldnt. I have thus since then learned much more patience and know you will find a player at a table like this now a days almost eveery time. You will eventually get them.

Makes me feel a bit better knowing I am at least not alone in having made such calls. Soon as I clicked the call button, before even see'ing the cards I was really pissed at myself for taking what I knew was essentially a coin flip gamble.

Ah well, lets see if I can win some of it back now I'm more stable and focused

Got my loses back now, woot!

Still a very average poker player so was hoping I didn't hit a down swing which would have annoyed me more.

Not going so well again, deposited $150 originally and finished at $280 last night. Am back down to $148 today so not a great day!

Cleared about half my requirements for mansion via pokersavvy and had an enjoyable time right enough.

Finished for today, going to chill with a few beers. Shall see what tommorrow brings - prosperity or bankrupcy.

Use bankroll management. Play with 20-40 buy ins.
Leave when table is tough or you are on tilt (this means also tired/bored)
