Hello, everyone...
I'm new to poker.
I have $1000 to start with after rent is paid on the 18th of this month.
I do not know the rules of the various games
I have had NO affiliation with any poker rooms
I'd appreciate being walked through the process and once more would like to express thanks to the GU immigrants whose presence would make a positive contribution to any forum; Doc, Ed Teach (and I hope I'm not leaving anyone out).

I'll begin by reading every post in this strategy section... if someone could hyperlink me to a good poker tutorial, that too would be appreciated.

I am going to come back a little later when i have time and help get you started. Also, are you US or not. If your not US I can get you a 100.00 for free to play with. That always helps. IF not that is fine too. I will be back soon with a lot of info.

My suggestion would be a Pokerstars account first, their initial sign up bonus is only $50, I think. Reloads are a little bigger, but infrequent.
Go through the link on The Offshore Edge main page.
The reason i would suggest stars is game selection, limits, cashouts are fast, and customer service. It's my opinion that they have a game / limit for everybody.
Good luck kahlmyishael.

i am going to get into dept in this tomorrow. SOrry tonight i have been watching my bears and too busy. But stars would be ok to set up an account to play with no money but before you deposit anywhere we should talk about starting hands, and a lot of other things before you put your money on the line.

1)I shall open up an account at Poker Stars...
2) Linking to the site from this forum....and..
3) set up a "practice play" account before I deposit any money....and
4) wait for iamkidpokers's post on "starting hands"

kahlmyishael :
I went and tried to find a link also, and couldn't. Very sorry for the bogus referral. the Offshore links are in the Poker Savvy room, I think.
Be aware that play $$, and real $$ games are totally different.
One of the reasons I first recomended Stars was the micro limits, I think they have games as low as .01/.02 cents. While these limits are darn near impossible to clear bonuses in, they also will protect your initial investment while you work on your game and become a winning player.
Bonuses are great though for weaker players to minimise their losses while learning / working on their game.
Another reason for the Stars recommendation is game selection, I think Stars is probably the biggest room on the net now. That means the most players, both weak and strong.
As well as the safety of your funds. I personally think that we will be seeing alot of offshore sites close up shop in the future with the new legislation. The players will have no recourse whatsoever if the site owners just " take the money and run. " It has happened before, and it will happen again. For this reason only - I think that Stars is your best bet, they are the only room out there that would have a SBR rating equivelent of A+. That accepts USA players.
It is my personal feeling that the UGIEA has made it now so that we are entering the " sleazy age of offshore gaming. " So while bonuses, rakeback, and swag, are important they are not nearly as important to me personally, as protecting my bankroll from gaming operators that do not have a stellar reputation / history.
Another thing that I would strongly recommend is setting up a bank account exclusively for online gaming only. Then link a Neteller account to this bank account. To get your $$ to and from the sites. This could take a few days to set up to avoid any Neteller Instacash fees. If fees aren't a problem then it can be done in ten minutes or so. [ the Neteller part ]
I personally would not want to risk my main bank account to be linked to my gambling account, for various reasons.

OOPS...In the time I posted the earlier response, then I looked at a new reply in the " question for kidpoker" thread. Kidpokers recommendations on rooms are diferrent from mine.
So at least you have two opinions to choose from, kahlmyishael.

OK, time to start helping. First off, if you want to play for practice play I would just download the poker stars software and do practice play only. Do not deposit there yet. There is no reason to deposit money yet until you get a good feel for the game. Also, to be honest, if you havent done the casinos yet, you might want to do them first to build up a bigger bankroll for poker. I dont know if you are in one of the excluded states for micro gaming, but if you are not, that would be a great option to do while you play some poker for no money just practice to get a feel.
What ever you do, do not deposit money into a poker room yet. If I were you, I would go to this poker site first.
Royal Vegas Poker | Get up to $100 in Free Gifts When you Join | PokerSavvy go to poker savvy through this link. Sign up at poker savvy and make sure you put toeforum as who referred you. Then download the royal vegas software. After you sign up at royal vegas, email them the next day and you get 10.00 no deposit bonus. YOu can use that money to play some micro limits there. And until you get that you can play the practice play.
Until you really read up and learn a little more about the game though, i wouldnt deposit yet. And this way you will have 10.00 to play with for free.
I am trying to get together a bunch of articles and things that will help you and learn from a complete beginner. I should have them by later today. It will be more of a step by step guide on what to learn.

Thanks for all of the help iamkidpoker and speed dealer.
I had forgotten completely, but I promised RPM at another forum that I was going to post a lawful, non-violent, constitutionally-compliant way to render the "offshore internet gambling ban" unenforceable.
Anyhow, I can work on practicing MY POKER PLAY till then with your help.
In order of chronological importance:
1)register at site provided by iamkidpoker for "practice play" and wait for him to provide articles for me
2)post ncaafb bowl write-ups AND THEN
3)assist doc if he needs it
4)save offshore gaming industry from extinction
...sometimes it helps me when i write this stuff down

some really nice advice in there but just wanted to comment on the instacash fees.. if you deposit at pokerstars with instacash they pay the fee no problems.. so you can get started quickly without the fee.
just wanted to mention that.
oops. didn't read ahead.. but that applies for a lot of sites. they'll cover the instacash fees.
