De La Hoya/Mayweather
Don't know if anyone else on here is a boxing fan like I am, but here's what I have in tonight's huge fight:
De La Hoya +178
Under 11.5 Rounds +232
Anyone want to discuss tonight's superfight?

i see value in de la hoya too, mayweather's trash talking has him ready to dish out some pain. de la hoya is also going to be a lot bigger than mayweather come fight time, 4lbs at weigh-in i could see that being a stone when they get going. if oscar's left jab gets going then i can see him taking it because he has struggled against guys with fast hands. also mayweather's overconfidence may cost him
i'd take oscar

I still think it comes down to Mayweather's speed giving De La Hoya problems. I see Mayweather as a faster Shane Mosely. I look past Mayweather's mouth and Oscar being the fan favorite and see Mayweather taking it in a decision.
I think the -170/-180 is a little too much to lay, but I'll probably throw some money on Mayweather to take it in a decision (+105).
Either way, I just hope it's a good fight and lives up to the hype.

I think De La Hoya is bigger, stronger, and the more experienced boxer. Mayweather hasn't been in big fights like De La Hoya has. Mayweather doesn't have the pop to end the fight in one punch like De La Hoya does. Mayweather has never fought anyone with the punching power of De La Hoya. Oscar is motivated and in the best shape of his career and he now has probably the best trainer in the world short of Emmanuel Steward. There is also a lot of drama in the Mayweather camp right now regardless of how calm they appear. The only real advantage Mayweather has in this fight is his speed and De La Hoya has seen similar speed in 2 fights and numerous sparring sessions with Shane Mosley.
These are just some of the reasons I saw a lot of value in taking De La Hoya and the under. I'll be rooting for De La Hoya, but I really just want to see a great fight that hopefully breathes some life into a great sport.

Freddy Roche has really shown how powerful Oscars RIGHT hand can be as well. PBF will be on the lookout for the left as ODH doesn't hardly throw a power right. But with Roche in the corner look for ODH to throw a couple hard counter rights. I'm on Oscar tonight simply on value and the history of Floyds hands. Oscar in the late rounds in a possible KO.

I don't know what everyone else thinks, but I'm not certain this was the type of fight that the casual fan wanted to pay $55 to see. As a boxing fan, I didn't think it was too bad. I don't like watching Mayweather because he's basically a hit and run artist. Throw one punch and then dance around the ring for 30 seconds before throwing another. I think De La Hoya had a point in the postfight interview when he said that he was the champion and that the challenger has to beat the champion. Floyd Sr. basically agreed with him. I'm not disputing the decision, I actually think this fight deserves a rematch. I sincerely hope Floyd Jr. is joking about retiring because his performance tonight wasn't one that a great fighter would want to be remembered for. I think Floyd Jr. wants to retire so he doesn't have to face Mosley or Cotto. Both would cause serious problems for Mayweather.
As far as this fight saving boxing goes, the sport may be in even more trouble as I don't think that the Average Joe will feel they got their money's worth.

The judges had it a one round victory for PBF. De la Hoya pressed and did what he needed to do to win. One point and its a draw. The champ did what a champ should do. MAKE IT A FIGHT. Oscar did that. PBF is fast but he had never seen the caliber of talent of De La hoya. IF a rematch is gonna happen then I would say that it should happen soon and Oscar should keep freddie Roache in his corner as well. Another thing that I think cost Oscar alot was that he completely stopped throwing the jab later in the fight and started to really stalk PBF looking for a knockout.
While Emmaual Stewart kept talking about Oscar tiring, I seen only brief glimpses of fatigue and it was usually following one of Oscars flurry of punches. He must of landed 80 to 1 in combonations to PBF hit and run offense.
Lets do it again and do it again soon.

I think Mayweather must have been surprised by Oscar because all his talk about beating him brutally didn't come close to fruition. Like you said Jeff, Oscar was the champion and he was the one pressing the fight. Mayweather would throw a punch and then back away for 30 seconds. I understand that the fight was scored how it was because Mayweather didn't throw many punches, but landed 40% of what he threw (CompuBox's subjective numbers, by the way). Looking at both fighters in postfight interviews, after a shower for each, you wouldn't have known that they had gone 12 rounds with another great fighter earlier in the evening. I think Oscar and Floyd Sr. were absolutely right in their postfight analysis. Mayweather, at times, looked panicked and scared of De La Hoya and those feelings weren't mutual. Mayweather's goal was to prove he was the greatest by beating De La Hoya convincingly and he didn't come close to doing so.
Hopefully, we get a rematch or Mayweather/Mosley. If we don't, the fans of boxing will feel stiffed last night.
